BKT Blog

Can we have a heart-to-heart for a sec?

BKT is five years old in five months. That’s crazy!

When I think about the whirlwind that has brought me to this moment, I’m lost for the right words. Am I a little awe-struck? Perhaps. Inspired? Somewhat. Weary? Without a doubt. In that time, I’ve lived in five houses, two regional cities and four postcodes, belonged to four different churches, and held six additional jobs. I have also navigated the entrance of the first BKT baby and all the complexities of running a business alongside a brand new (yet truly amazing) parent, Lauren.

It’s been an adventure, but it’s also been hard, gruelling at times, and incredibly worthwhile.

In late 2020, my husband and I said “yes” to the Lord. “Yes” to an outrageous seed of an idea I had with a friend, and “yes” to the adventure that lay beyond leaving the city we had always called home.

What I know for certain now, my friends, is that “yes” is a dangerous word.

What we could have never anticipated was that those three letters would result in an adventure that has marked our lives, forever. They have brought with them immense heart break, untangling from unhealthy and hindering systems, and the ‘open-heart-surgery’ experience this type of divine work brings. They have ushered in seasons of wilderness as the Lord completely recalibrated what we see as worthwhile and valuable – money, belonging, and security included.

It’s been a long time since I’ve felt truly secure in the provision produced by how I’m called to spend my time, but the more I consider this, the more I’m convinced this is the call of a Christian leader.

There has to be a level of discomfort in the lives we live, because these lives we live are not ours. There has to be a level of discomfort as we try to make a home in this world, because our true home is not here.

If I’m honest with you, sometimes I long for the comfort and security of my previous life, B.B.K.T (Before Big Kids’ Table). Starting a business, and running a ministry with opposite values to the world is hard, emptying, and so incredibly uncomfortable.

But then I consider what the Lord has done in the last (almost) five years of Big Kids’ Table.

I can recall story after story of how God has touched the hearts of young people and adults in the communities we work with. I’ve seen young girls weeping over the sweetness of what God promises sex should and can be, and young men huddled together praying for freedom from porn addiction – and then seeing this happen and joining our team years later! I’ve seen now hundreds of young people respond to the Gospel and welcome Jesus into their hearts at our programs as we’ve worked in communities in VIC, NSW, TAS, SA and soon to be QLD. I’ve honestly seen communities changed because of what we do.

Now reader, I know what I’m good at. I know that I’m charming, warm, and pretty good with a microphone. But there is no way that I could have ever taken the trials of the last few years and turned them into fruit like this.

God is alive and well and working within Big Kids’ Table – even now as I write this our team is on the other side of Melbourne changing lives in a school in Melton.

Now this is the part where I ask you for help.

Interestingly, when you run a Chrisitan charity you receive a lot of advice. Namely in how to fundraise and ask for support. Obviously people can get weird about money so it’s been an ongoing conversation between Lauren and myself. How do we do this well? Where’s the balance between relying on God and inviting others to support us? Currently, how are we going to cover our overheads and actually grow at the same time? What will 2026 bring? How do I plan my own personal life around an income and business that is day-to-day and unpredictable?

(Did I mention how uncomfortable leading this thing is?)

I’m not one for showboating and I honestly don’t have the resources and knowledge to create a snazzy marketing campaign on this Thursday morning. But I do know how to be authentic and I love it when others do the same. So here we go…

Can you please help BKT stay afloat by partnering with us financially? Do you have the means to gift us money that will help support Lauren and I as we continue to lead this thing, and help build an epic team that not only loves what they do, but can live off the income it produces too?

We’ve seen too many amazing people come and go at BKT, often leaving with heavy hearts because the culture and call isn’t the problem, the cash is. And while this has been truly difficult to watch, Lauren and I have been unable to change anything as we can hardly pay ourselves a sustainable wage too.

The aforementioned advice actually often tells you not to tie fundraising to wages. But in this era and at this point in time that’s exactly where it will go. Because building a team that not only loves what they do, but can live off what they are called to do, will only continue to support the massive influence BKT is having across our country.

Financially partnering with us directly blesses the communities we work with because we can actually afford to show up!

So, if you’re able will you please partner with us financially?

We actually need about $50,000 currently, but it’s not about the dollar amount you can give.

Rather, it’s the unity of the Body of Christ and the power this brings. And no, unfortunately we don’t, and can’t ever get, DGR status. Why? Because we refuse to “tone-down” the focus we have on the Gospel and our intention to spread the Good News in all we do.

This ask is one that is heart-to-heart alone. We can’t offer any financial benefits other than the huge Kingdom influence your gift would bring.

Can you help us? Do you know someone who would?

You can find out more and partner with us below ❤️

Thank you for your support and prayer over the last (almost) 5 years and the years to come.

Let’s see what the Lord does next.

In grace,
